SEGA
In the 90s, sega was in the big 3 of console manufactures, competeing with Nintendo, and eventually, also with Sony.
Due to multiple consecutive terrible leadership decisions, sega unfortunately went bankrupt and had to switch into a game publisher.
How I would save Sega out of bankruptcy in the 90s:
- MEGA DRIVE
- 1. Better third party support.
Every successful console has third party support. It is an essential part for a console's success.
- 2. No 32X.
If it HAS to happen, make it easy to develop for and make titles forward compatible with Saturn.
- 3. Do not rush development of the console.
Add more features, removing the need for addons early into it's life.
- SATURN
- 1. Make is cheaper to produce.
Drop the hard to understand architecture. Also make it easy to develop for.
- 2. Go with Silicon Graphics chip.
The N64 Graphics chip was originally proposed to be for the Saturn. This would allow the Saturn to be more powerful than the PS1.
- 3. Make it backwards compatible with the previous gen. MD, SEGA CD, 32X.
It could be presented as not only the newest, most powerful console, but also as an easy solution to play all previous gen titles, with no need for 3 systems.
- 4. Most important of all- RELEASE WITH A SONIC GAME
Give the console a title that people associate it with. Like the N64's Mario 64, and the PS1's Crash Bandicoot.
- DREAMCAST
- 1. Faster, Stronger, More memory.
If its going to be the first 6th gen console on the market, make it future-proof. Don't let it go obselete as soon as it's competition arrives.
- 2. Use DVDs instead of GD-ROMs.
Make it support the Correct disc format.
- 3. Better controller, more similar to 6-button Saturn controller. Also add backward compatibility with Saturn.
If my saturn plan works, then go ahead and add the Saturn's library to the new console, MD,CD & 32X backward compatibility isn't needed
